Povidone iodine is a porous complex formed by combining elemental iodine with polymer carrier.Povidone acts as a carrier and solubilizer.At room temperature, it is yellowish-brown to brownish-red amorphous powder.Slight odor, soluble in water or ethanol, aqueous solution is acidic.Povidone iodine solution does not have the shortcomings of iodine tincture, light color, easy elution, little stimulation to mucous membranes, no alcohol deiodination, no corrosion, low toxicity.
